Crowd of 1,400 Turns Out as Montana County Bans Big Boxes

Anti-Supercenter Ordinance Upheld

A California appeals court upheld an ordinance enacted by the city of Turlock that prohibits the construction of supercenters. Wal-Mart had challenged the ordinance on the grounds that it illegally restricted competition. The court ruled that the ordinance was a valid use of local authority. Continue reading

Damariscotta, Maine, Rejects Wal-Mart, Endorses Size Cap

On Tuesday, voters in the small town of Damariscotta, Maine, overwhelmingly approved a local law barring stores over 35,000 square feet (about the size of a medium grocery store).
